So, Friday morning, I parted with my friends and began the 5.5 drive to Bishop. Well, it took more like 8.5 but for good reason - as I drove along, I came across a sign for a Bristlecone Pine grove. I couldn't pass up 4K year old trees, so up I headed. Unforunately, the road was closed a good mile from the vistory center, so I had to walk in the heat (hint: don't do this in jeans!) and from there I had a choice to do the 45 min of 2-4hour trail. I did the 45 min and it was cool but not quite as cool as I was expecting. I was hoping for 'this tree is XX years old'. Cool, nethertheless. Done, I changed my mind and start up the 4.25 mile 2-4 hours traili inorder to see the Methusalah tree (oldest known living thing in the world) at ~5K years old but alas after 1 mile into the trail,, I was forced to turn back as I couldn't follow the trail because of the snow. Ah well. Next time!
Gotten into Bishop around 4, bought the new bouldering guide book. Rather expensive, but just released and very nice! Checked into the $2 camp ground called 'the pit' and settled in for the night.
Got up SAturday and headed over to the Happy Boulders all of 3 miles away down a dirt road. Great place!! About 250 boulder problems in a very small area. Would up meeting up with a group of folks (actually two groups that had also met that morning) and would up climbing with them all day - at the Happies in the morning and then at a place called the Dreamers in the afternoon about 24 miles away (and 2K feet higher elevation). Much cooler, thought the rock was very sharp.
Sunday, went to the Sad boulders in the morning and in the heat of the day went and did laundry, and had lunch. Let's see, that was my 4th stop at Subway so far this trip. Around 4 went up to the Buttermilks area (granite rock rather than volcanic tufta as in the Happies/Sads) and tried my hand at the 'Iron Man Traverse'. Did it in two parts and almost got it but alas, was getting tired. Went back to town for my 6th trip to Subway for dinner and headed off to bed, feeling good but tired.
I'm off on my way to San Fran now. I hope to get net access sooner than last time.
Bye for now.
